300W Power Supply Replacement in a Windows XP Custom Desktop

Just completed installing a 300W power supply into a custom desktop computer running Windows XP, so it's about 20 years old.

Put the power supply in. Had to tell the client that the power supply was not a direct one-to-one fit, so there was going to be some slight movement. Put the computer back together and set it up in its spot.

The client also wanted the desktop area cleaned up, so I was able to remove excessive cables that were plugged into the back of her desk area. Those cables were part of a ThinkPad docking station she had. Tested the desktop with the new power supply — successfully booted up. Client was very happy.

Advised the client that the desktop is nearing its end of life and that I couldn't guarantee it would continue to work as-is. Stressed the importance of migrating the data off of her existing hard drives and onto a ThinkPad X1 Carbon that she has.

The client also let me take an additional ThinkPad laptop that her previous tech person had said wasn't working anymore and had advised her to get a new laptop. I was able to power the laptop on and it seems to be working as expected, except there may be a battery issue. She let me take the laptop home to run diagnostics on it.

Meeting with the client tomorrow or the day after — Saturday. Client paid in full.
